Two days with a new post and later probably another one. I'm writing more here then I should, but the end of the year and January are the times where most of the movies that are worth seeing come out so I have to do it.
I probably saw this on a bad timing, I was kind of sleepy and the movie doesn't really help in the waking up department, but I didn't fell asleep. I'm not saying that the movie is boring but like every political drama, or at least in most of them you don't have the gun shots or the laugh to wake you up.
The movie tells us the story of the last months of the guy best know for giving the USA it's town car, I kid, the president that abolish slavery 140 years ago, it tells us how he manage to obtain the 2/3 necessary votes to do it, how he manage the end of the war, and how one influenced the other, on his private life shows us his relationship with his wife and sons, we have a bit of his personality, at least what people told and wrote about him (for me the best parts of the movie was actually him telling his stories).
Stepping a bit out of the movie world, I always knew that you can't trust what you read in the books that were written about what happened several years ago, I honestly believe that being the history manual or for those who believe the bible, in the end of the day it was written by men and they wrote the way the see it and not like it actually was, let me give you and example, even in your life there is a moment that you shared with someone and has it ever happened that you remember it differently, I'm sure it did happen and like Maxwell Scott said on The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, "When the legend becomes fact, print the legend.".
Back to the movie, Daniel Day-Lewis as always a fenomenal performance, I don't know a better actor, well at least alive, he is the soul of the movie, Tommy Lee Jones also gives a good performance but I didn't like his plot, it felt too fake, even if it was what actually happened, Sally Field was good too, we get to see a few more know and not so know actors and how the Lincoln persona ripples trough their lives.
Actually one of the thing that made me interested to discover when I got in front of the computer, was the fact that he was actually a republican and that the ones that where opposing him where the democrats, but that is only a little fun fact, another interesting think that it wasn't well explains in the movies is the fact that he didn't die in the theater but that he died 3 days later in some home.
This is getting too long and I'm not actually writing about the movie.
To sum it up, this is a historical piece not a entertainment movie, go see it if you want to know more about that time and Lincoln, you will see some great actors and like all his other a great performance by Daniel Day-Lewis, Spielberg does a good job, and the movie is good if you consider what it is.
Just awful - O
Not for me - O
1 time only - O
Good - X
Brilliant - O
I wasn't sure about how to rank it between 1 time and good, but because of Daniel Day-Lewis I'll give it a good.
Next probably later. Zero Dark Thirty,
