Hi today we have a double header, first of all I was going to question why Jiro Dreams of Sushi wasn't nominated for best documentary, well that would be a mistake because it was made in 2011, while the core question is still full or purpose the time is not the best (only one year later).

Well I had only about 1h30 to see something and i picked up a documentary about a famous musician, well famous in South Africa, I like movies about music, so docs should be okay, I thought to myself, I liked Almost Famous, I like musical, I don't understand why people start singing out of nowhere and where does the music come from, but me questioning this doesn't make not like them. So I gave this a chance, on the other hand and quoting a line from sideways "I like non fiction. There is so much to know about this world. I think you read something somebody just invented, waste of time." not that I agree but it's always a different perspective.

About Jiro dreams', I like sushi but this isn't about sushi this movie is about commitment, about loving what you do, this is the story of the best Sushi chef in Japan a man that passed the age retirement but continues to work as hard as he ever did, well he is Japanese, he has a different mentality, that might be truth, but he is a man in love with his craft, in my opinion he has what all of us should have a need to move forward and a need not to be stall, I envy him, and if you see it you will too.

I was delighted when I saw him speaking about his craft, his need for perfection, but what i felt was most inspiring was the reason he does it, not because of money, not because of greed, only because he wants perfection, and even after the decades of experience he is still after it, I knew 2 things for sure when I finished the doc, that he will never achieve perfection because that doesn't matter, what matter is the constant need for it and I also knew that he is going to die a happy man because he won't be in his death bed wondering, was my life fulfilling enough, did I do what I wanted or was I a zombie in my entire life, They are the things that left me a great impression.

Now, Searching for Sugar Man, the truth and the reason I wrote these together, it's about the theme is the same as Jiro Dreams, but told in a different way, it's a life lesson, and inspiring tale, to think that this is real and not fiction makes you believe in faith, and makes you think that even if the quote from sideways is absurd there might be something in it. I won't ruin the doc but let me just say this, if you see it you will be sad, you will be happy, you will be inspired, you will laugh and in in the end you will realize that this in indeed a great story.

Ps: last thought and this has nothing to do with my comments on the doc, did you ever realized that you will allow a lot more shit on a movie that in the beginning says based on a true story that a movie that doesn't. It's amazing how our brains rationalizes this - well in the beginning I read that this was based in a true story so this is the way that it definitely happened.
